For Day 6 of NAFW 2016 I decided to try challenge myself with an intricate manicure. Usually I prefer bold geometric patterns – straight lines, half moons, even Aztec, so doing something less structured feels very unusual. Today’s theme being dresses, I chose this fabulous sport luxe dress from the 2016 Versace Fall collection for inspiration.
However, while translating the Versace dress pattern into nail art, I again gravitated towards geometry. There’s the straight horizontal lines on the pointer and little fingers for example. The detailed pattern on the thumb and ring finger turned out quite well and I can certainly envisage them in future nail designs. However, I’m not sure how I feel about the pattern on the middle finger. It certainly looks great as a part of the look (can’t argue with Donatella’s genius) but as a separate design – um, I don’t know… Well, at least I tried.
An important lesson I learned while creating this nail design is that it’s easier to paint the ‘detailed’ parts than the straight yellow lines. So if you’ve been hesitant to attempt detailed nail designs, fear not, it’s easy! You’ll just need a super fine nail art brush. If you want to try these Versace nails, my how-to is below….
To get the look: First apply 2-3 coats of white nail polish. Using a detailing nail art brush, paint yellow and blue angled lines on thumb, middle and ring fingers. Next, with black polish, add fine details between the blue and yellow lines. Use a striping brush to add yellow lines on the pointer and little fingers. Let your manicure dry for a few minutes, apply a quick dry top coat, or matte top coat and you’re done.
Products Used: ORLY Nailtrition (base), Essie Blanc, Sea Siren Sea Dayze, Mint Polish Tart, OPI Never Have Too Many Friends, Sally Hansen Diamond Flash top coat and Essie Matte Top Coat, SN Brushes.
Wearing: Midi rings.
So there you have it, a SoNailicious attempt at this Versace nail design. In two finishes – glossy and matte.
Are you a fan of detailed nail art looks? Do you enjoy creating a nail art that is out of your comfort zone?
