This is the time of year when fashion weeks are happening across the world. So we’re joining in by dedicating the whole week on SoNailicious.com to the latest beauty and nail trends straight from the runways of New York, London, Milan and Paris.
Speaking of trends, it’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW) where designers, makeup and nail artists get together to push the boundaries and define the look of the new season. There are always a few new trends that make it into the mainstream for a season, sometimes even for years. They may not be totally wearable now, but 2-3 years on and you may see traces of it everywhere. Black nails, winged eyes, even dark lips were all revolutionary in their own time. So let’s have a look at the most surprising beauty looks from the NYFW Spring 2015 shows that have the potential to become the next big trend:
1. Rodarte: pierced eyebrows & bleached nails
Fresh faced models with eyebrows fully decked in rows of silver rings and nails with a smudged ink blue stripe along the cuticles. The hoops are glued onto the eyebrows. How did they distribute the 8 tiny hoops so evenly? The leading NARS makeup artist James Kaliardos didn’t disclose his secret. Manicurist Tracylee (it was her who created the famous dripping nails for Prabal Gurung in 2012) created an unusual nail look by wiping off navy polish in a way that gave it a dull matte appearance.
2. A Detacher: 3D stars
The masters from Shiseido Japan created a minimalist yet feminine look for A Detacher Spring 2015. Again, fresh faced models with 3D glitter stars in silver and gold paired with simple pastel orange nails. The perfect beauty look for a summer party.
3. Honor: electric blue cat eye & 3D pearl nails
Blue was the color backstage at Honor. Polly Osmond for Beauty.com used Kevyn Aucoin Cosmetics to create electric blue cat eye. Manicurist Nonie Crème, the former founding creative director of Butter London, complimented the look with blue on nails by creating cheerful 3D psychedelic polka dots.
