The great Christian Dior once said “Polka dots offer charm, elegance, relaxation and are always fashionable, I never get tired of them”. The new Dior Polka Dots manicure kits are, in a word, superb. The formula and packaging are of the highest quality but there’s also a welcome surprise – the miniature Dior dotting tool. Under the creative direction of Peter Philips, the house of Dior has completely moved away from the reserved classic palettes towards trend-setting vibrant colours. I may be a little biased towards polishes, but to me, the playful and original colours of the three new Polka Dots manicure kits make them the highlight of the Dior Milky Dots summer 2016 makeup collection.
Easy to work with, highly-pigmented formula. Fun vivid nail colours that look flattering on any skin tone. What else do you need for an ideal summer manicure? I bet that Azure Blue from the Pastilles kit will become the IT colour of Summer 2016.
DIOR POLKA DOTS – COLOUR & DOTS MANICURE KIT:
- Confettis – #652 coral and #432 mango
- Plumetis – #262 pale pink and #582 lilac
- Pastilles – #212 milk and #795 blue
Also, as passionate nail art advocate, I find it delightful to see the house of Dior putting it’s haute couture seal of approval on nail art. By launching these kits, they are introducing nail art to the wider public. Daring fashionistas can now easily create polka dots on their nails and the wise people at Dior have even been thoughtful enough to include instructions for a DIY polka dot manicure in the set.
All right, it’s quite clear the new Dior Polka Dots nail art kits get my vote (both hands!). For the more technical details, read on beauties!
Formula: 5-free. The smooth, fast drying, extremely opaque formula is a treat to work with. Even for the lightest polishes – nude #212 from the Pastilles set and pink #262 from the Plumetis set – you’ll need only 2 coats to get them fully opaque.
Application: Just flawless! A signature full-size Dior brush in a miniature bottle is a pleasant surprise & makes application easy. If you have small nails, you’ll be able to apply the polish with just one stroke!
Finish/Colour: Very glossy, vivid cremes. These colours look particularly fabulous on a slightly tanned skin. Dior Polka Dots Confettis set (mango & coral) may not be suitable for skin with red undertones (like mine) but would look amazing on olive skin. The Pastilles and Plumetis sets (pictured) would suit any skin tone.
Nail Art: These polishes are great for any kind of nail art. Very easy to work with, a nail art lover’s dream!
Dupes: There are some dupes for the nude #212 (= OPI My Vampire Is Buff) and pink #262 (=Sea Siren Pamper Me Pink) but there are absolutely no dupes for the blue #795. I have a very extensive blue nail polish collection and nothing comes close to this colour. I haven’t found any dupes for the lilac #582 from the Plumetis set either.
Wearability: Very long lasting. 7 days with a top coat.
Overall Impression: Superb. The Dior Polka Dots manicure kit will set you back $31 but it’s a worthy investment. You’ll get 2 awesome Dior polishes and a luxurious Dior dotting tool. How many nail artists have Dior nail art tools in their stash? None! Until now and you cna be one of the first to have it. The kit is also versatile, you can wear the polishes separately, do polka dot nails or any other nail art. I can already envision all sorts of French manicures and gradients happening with these duos. Just beware, these kits are a limited edition so don’t hesitate if you haven’t ordered them already.
Availability: Now! Via Dior beauty counters or online US $31 – here & here, £23.50 – here and AUD $50 – here.
Wearing: Delicate Midi ring & T-Bar ring.
Christian Dior never tired of polka dots and this summer, thanks to the creative genius of Peter Philips and his team, polka dot manicures get as luxurious as they can be!
