5 Top Tips For Healthy Long Nails:
1. Always keep a good pair of washing up gloves at hand. Water is your enemy, water weakens the nails and can cause them to split, peel and break if exposed to a lot of hand washing or dish washing.
2. Moisture, moisture and more moisture. Always use a good hand lotion close by and apply after washing hands. L’Occtaine hand creams are lovely but try to pick one that suits your skin type.
3. Choose a nail strengthening product which suits your nails and use it regularly. There are a number if products ranging from creams such as Hard As Hoof to base coats such as OPI Nail Envy.
4. Use a good cuticle cream/oil. Massage regularly into the cuticles this will help nail growth and keep your cuticles in good condition. Try Lush Lemony Flutter or any other great quality cuticle cream or oil.
5. Replenish within. Drink lots of water and try taking some vitamins for nail growth or Biotin supplements, these can help even the shortest of nails to get a kick start.

Great advice. So simple, but crazy as it seems, sometimes the simplest things things seem the hardest habits to keep. Besides the obvious, don’t bite your nails, I find having a regular manicure helps. I find looking after my nails, painting them regularly, i think twice about biting them after all the effort I put in to keeping them nice and long. (BTW – I used to be a chronic nail biter!)

Agree 100%! I’m a former nail biter too. It’s hard to stop though. You know it’s bad for you but you just can’t help it some times. That’s when having a great manicure on your nails can really help! Thanks for sharing your tip Karen! x

Great tips, ive got to get better with using washing up gloves, but since reading about the hair, nail and skin vitamins on this site previously, I started using the Swisse brand and haven’t looked back, totally think they help my nails grow stronger and my hair look shinier, which doesn’t hurt!

I’ve tried oils and hardeners, but nothing seems to work. my nails are super weak and break off easily. how do i get them to grow out long and strong?

Try different nail strengtheners until you find the one that works for you. Here’s a good list – https://sonailicious.com/10-best-nail-strengtheners/. Also, make sure you take vitamins and look after your cuticles. Use cuticle oil 2-3 times a day, plus take some good multivitamins, plus use nail strengtheners (always have it on your nails) – do this for 4 weeks, you should see the result. My nails used to be weak and short and would break easily, but doing all these things (vitamins + strengthener + cuticle oil) really helped – my nails now strong and grow fast too.
