Oh the 90’s… grunge boots, checked skirts, Nirvana, chokers and of course, brown lipstick! It’s funny how fashion and makeup trends are so reliably cyclic. It seems like yesterday, but it was exactly 20 years ago when I bought my first brown lipstick in September 1995 in London. I was so obsessed with this stick of Bourjois, it was probably the only lipstick that I used right down to the last.
So when I saw Dior Rouge Unique it was like a reincarnation. And I am eternally grateful to Mr Peter Philips, Dior Makeup Director, who created the Cosmopolite collection and resurrected the perfect brown lipstick – Dior Unique. Needless to say, I’m going to wear this one quite a lot too.
Interesting fact: I used to be told that brown lipstick made me look more mature. I can’t really tell now if it made me look older back in 1995, but it certainly doesn’t add any extra years to my current appearance.
Finally, here’s a quick Dior Rouge Unique review for some technical details on this beauty. Unique is a vivid dark brown with red undertones lipstick, creamy, highly pigmented and long-lasting. It doesn’t bleed and stays on exceptionally well (even without a lip pencil!). The perfect lippie for a nigh out or maybe daytime if you’re feeling brave or a 90’s child, which are pretty much the same thing.
