You know that feeling when you look at someone’s nails and think “OMG! That can’t be hand painted!” That’s how I felt when I first saw Chelsea’s nails on Pinterest! Well, I was mistaken…
Chelsea, a 19 year old psychology and social behavior student at University of California-Irvine does all her manicures herself! The variety and creativity of her nail art is astonishing. Her nail art has been featured on Refinery29, MTV Style, Glamour and she even took part in a documentary about nail art! She began her blog in March 2011 and since then Get Nailed has expanded into making tutorials, collaborating with NastyNails and selling press on nails. Do I actually need to say Chelsea runs one of the best nail blogs in the world?
Today she shares her story and a few great nail painting tips and tricks with us. So go on lovelies, have a read!
Why nails?
I’ve always been a big fan of art, I love painting! Using my nails as a canvas was a much cheaper and easier option so I just began painting my nails. I also love fashion so nails was the perfect accessory!
Favourite nail blogger?
Just one!? I’m a big fan of Chalkboard Nails…her swatches are gorgeous. I also love Madeline Poole, Spifster, Astrowifey, and tons of others.
Your favourite sweet treat?
Oh gosh…tootsie rolls, cookies, ice cream…the list is endless.
The best nail care tip?
Moisturize your cuticles! Once I started really taking care of my nails it really improved how my pictures looked. Also, I think anyone can have great looking nails if they just clean them up nicely! I use an old eyeshadow brush or an angled eyeliner brush dipped in remover to clean up my nails around the cuticles.
NAIL POLISH FAVORITES:
Favourite nail polish brand?
OPI, NCLA (1), and Essie
Best luxury brand?
Deborah Lippmann or Butter London (2).
Which brand has the best formula?
For me I’ve noticed that Zoya (3) nail polish lasts a very long time! I love their formula.
Which brand has the best brush?
OPI (4), I love the size of the brush.
Nail care product you can’t live without?
Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream! Smells great and makes my cuticles look fabulous.
NAIL ART:
Favourite colour combinations?
Right now I’m obsessed with turquoise and grey! I love Essie Where’s My Chauffeur? (image 1)
Favorite pattern/nail art trend?
Leopard always has and probably always will be my favourite! Its so simple yet it looks great. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of houndstooth designs as well (image 2).
What’s your best tip for painting your other hand?
Patience! I always try to rush through it. Also, just know that if you mess up you can always clean it up!
The funniest/the most adventurous nail art you have ever created?
I once did YOLO (You Only Live Once, a song by Drake) nails as a joke, I can’t even begin to tell you how many people told me they thought it was ridiculous and thought I was crazy for wanting that on my nails. I was just trying to be funny! YOLO nails – image 3
How do you get inspired for your nail art?
I love getting inspired by fashion. Sometimes I’ll be out shopping and I’ll see a design on a shirt or dress that would translate really nicely onto nails, so I take a photo and save it for nail inspiration later! Once I got inspired by a Kate Spade wallet that I’ve been lusting after – Kate Spade nails, image 4
