MAC Submerged Submerged My Dreams. Literally

MAC submerged review swatches

MAC Submerged, you broke my heart! After writing the recent ‘Object of Desire: MAC limited edition polishes‘ article, it was obligatory to get some for myself. I was lucky to find the MAC Alluring Aquatic collection (it’s sold out everywhere even online!) in a remote shopping center and grabbed the prettiest one – MAC Submerged, the mystical teal duochrome.

That evening a new perfect manicure was created. What a stunning colour and great formula, not to mention the unique packaging that has sheer water droplets manufactured into the lid. Wow, wow, wow! I’d already started making plans to go back the next morning and get the other two colours – MAC Neptune, tarnished gold and Shimmerfish, shimmering champagne.

But alas, the next morning I woke up to two chipped nails and all the other nails looked worn out as if the polish was a week old. This from a product that’s positioned as a long lasting, high end polish. I followed the exact procedure when I applying this polish – base, polish, clean up, top… But it just didn’t work.

Oh MAC, how disappointing! Such a beautiful colour in a such a stunning bottle. Wish your creators took as much care when making your formula.

Anyways guys, if you still wish to give it a go, detailed review as always below… sigh…

MAC submerged review MAC submerged reviewMAC submerged reviewMAC submerged polish review 1REVIEW:

  • Formula: Mid-density, not highly pigmented formula that also takes a long time to dry. But it contains strengthening silica, UV filters and also 3-free (No Formaldehyde, Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate).
  • Application: relatively easy to apply, 3 good layers of polish required to achieve full coverage.
  • Finish: Beautiful duochrome ranges from emerald/teal to cobalt. Very glossy, can be worm without top coat.
  • Brush: great, mid thickness brush.
  • Wearability: not longlasting at all! Chips within 10 hours with top coat and easily wears off from the tips of your nails.
  • Extra Notes: Comes in a pretty bottle!

MAC submerged nail polish

MAC Submerged Overall Impression: Stunning colour and stunning bottle, but as far as the actual nail polish goes, deeply disappointing. It’s a summer collection, so you’d imagine spending your days at the beach or at least by the pool holding a cocktail in your perfectly manicured hand. And you probably will, just don’t rely on MAC Submerged delivering you a flawless summer manicure. One day wear OPI Push & Shove lasts longer on nails this MAC. However, if you like collecting incredibly picturesque limited edition polishes than yes, MAC Submerged is perfect for that.

Available: US $ 17.50 here, Europe 15 EURO here, Australia – $23 AUS via MAC makeup counters.

MAC Submerged left me confused. It’s my first MAC polish, so it would be unfair to cross over all other MAC polishes. Maybe it’s just this collection or just this particular polish.

What about you guys, have you tried MAC nail polish before? Have you tried Submerged yet? What was your experience with them like? Did they last long?

– Maria, xx

That’s so disappointing :( While I don’t own any MAC polish specifically, I have had the unfortunate run in with “high end, salon quality, nail brands” that have turned out to be 3x as expensive, and 1/2 the quality of the “low end” brands. I had to stop myself from buying into that “super limited edition” B.S. and just be satisfied with my lower-end brands. Besides, if the polish colour is that stunning, some other brand with duplicate it soon enough ;)

Exactly! It’s quite disappointing to find out that a well known (and expensive!) brand like MAC makes such poor quality polishes. At the same time some less known (and indie) brands make polishes the way better than this – the amazing FNUG, Dance Legend, Mint Polish, just to name a few. Great colours, fantastic formulas and cost twice less than MAC. I guess indie polish makers put more effort into care their products then MAC with all its laboratories…

This is bad ! really ! it is only the bottle that is “alluring” !
