Red nail designs are chic and daring. When done right, your statement red manicure will get plenty of compliments. However, it can be tricky to use red nail polish in nail art. Red looks great by itself but when combined with wrong colours it may look tacky. The secret of a great red nail design is to pair red polish with equally bright contrasting colours, like this and this, or use different shades of red in one look, like these famous red nails or just like this two tone red nail design I’m showing you today!
The striking orange red Chanel 634 Arancio Vibrante and the dark red OPI Party at Holly’s compliment each other really well, while the intricate gold pattern adds that necessary touch of luxury. A great bonus, this gold and red nail design is very easy to do and it can be done in gel (even better for 3D details) or with nail polish.
Now, without further ado, let’s see the how to!
You will need:
- Fire red polish
- Dark red polish
- Straight line stencils
- White nail polish
- Droplets nail stickers
- Detailing nail art brush
- Dotting tool
- Tweezers
- Top coat
HOW TO:
1. Paint all nails with red nail polish and apply 1 thin coat of a fast drying top coat.
2. Apply straight line nail stencils on all nails. Make sure the stencils are positioned precisely straight and right in the middle of each nail.
3. Paint upper part of the nail dark red.
4. Carefully remove the tape. Take the Droplet nail stickers and choose which one you will use to suit your nails.
5. Apply stickers on all nails – align them well. Use silicone tool to smooth the surface of stickers and get rid of any bubbles underneath.
6. Use cuticle cutters to trim the edges, to make sure the stickers are not sticking out beyond the painted part of each nail.
7. Clean up any mistakes of polish application with a clean up brush and apply 1 coat of high gloss top coat. You can finish now (see photo below for the simple two tone look), or proceed to the next step and add the 3D details.
8. Use a detailing nail art brush or dotting tool to apply white dots over the gold nail stickers. Then add one more layer of a high gloss top coat to secure your design.
