New York has gone French crazy, I have never seen so many variations of French manicures during a single fashion week. The colours were mainly subdued neutral or dark moody. While such palette may be considered as a bit conservative, there was nothing conservative about the patterns! Take for example, spikey negative space moons (ie. reverse French manicure) that Zoya manicurists created for Zimmermann, dotted French tips in gold and black at Alice & Olivia, Ruffian nails textured details at Rolando Santana or often a combination manicures that encompassed two or three techniques in one look, like the stunning ginger matte nails with gold foil details as seen at Ohne Titel. As for the ongoing discussion about the death of nail art, nail art is not going anywhere. The recent New York Fashion Week was another example of this. Even though nail art is currently leaning towards more classical styles, there were more different textures and new techniques than ever before. Rather than eye-catching patterns, new season nails are all about making a subtle statement by adding interesting details like foiled golden tips or combining matte and gloss in one look.
So come on spill, are you a fan the French manicure? Which NYFW look is your favorite? Which one are you keen to try?
